Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *śokˀāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱokh₂- (“wooden branch”). Cognate with Latvian sakas (“horse's collar”) and Sanskrit शाखा (śā́khā, “branch”); see the latter for more.[1]
