[edit]From Byzantine Greek ἀλέτριν (alétrin), dissimilated variant of ἀρέτρι(ν) (arétri(n)), from ἀρότρι(ν) (arótri(n)), from Koine Greek ἀρότριον (arótrion), from diminutive of Ancient Greek ἄροτρον (árotron). Doublet of άροτρο (árotro).
