Learned borrowing from Sanskrit वसुन्धरा (vasundharā, “earth (as a dwelling)”), from वसुम् (vasum, accusative singular of वसु (vasu, “dwelling”)) + धरा (dharā, “the supporter”, i.e. the earth), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wés-us and *dʰor-eh₂ respectively.
