Etymology
First attested as Oude kerk van Oosterwolde (afgebr[oken]) in 1830-1855. Compound of kerk (“church”) and dorp (“village, settlement”). Formerly the village centre of Oosterwolde. The church was moved at the beginning of the 19th century due to heightened risk of flooding.
