Etymology
Internationalism chiefly via German Azur (“azure”) (see also English azure, French azur (“azure”), Italian azzurro (“azure”)), from Arabic لَازُوَرْد (lāzuward, “lapis lazuli; azure”), from Persian لاجورد (lâjvard, “lapis lazuli; azure”).[1]
