Borrowed from Swahili ngamia (“camel”), from Arabic جَمَل (jamal, “camel”), from Proto-West Semitic *gamal- (“camel”). Doublet of engamiya (“camel; horse”). Compare Yao ngamila, Chichewa ngamira, and Shona ngamera.
