From Middle High German herūz, herūʒ, harūz, from Old High German heraūz (“out of here; forth”), equivalent to her- (“to or over here; hither”, prefix implying movement) + aus (“out”). Compare German hinaus (“out from here”) and German daraus (“out from there”) and archaic English hereout (“out of here”).
