- oil derived from various types of animal fat: fish liver (from shark, cod, pollock, etc.), and in earlier times also whale, seal or walrus blubber, historically used for lighting (with oil lamps), but now primarily used as a food supplement (for its content of vitamins A, D and E and omega-3 fatty acids)
