From Old Norse ná, from Proto-Germanic *nēhwiz. Cognate with Old Saxon nāh, Dutch na, Old High German nāh (German nah and nahe); Swedish nära, Gothic 𐌽𐌴𐍈 (nēƕ); Old English nēah (English nigh).
