The 2024 MPBL finals will be the championship series of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League's (MPBL) 2024 season and the conclusion of the season's playoffs. The best-of-five playoff will be contested between the North Division champion (either the San Juan Knights or the Pampanga Giant Lanterns)[1][2] and the South Division champion. The series will begin on December 1, 2024.
The league will play the first two games of the series in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, marking the first time a Philippine basketball league will play its championship series overseas. The league will then return home for the remaining three games, where the team with the higher regular season record gains homecourt advantage.[3]
This series will be the first since 2021 that will see a returning finalist, as both North Division contenders previously made the national finals before (San Juan in 2019 and 2021; Pampanga in 2023).
Background
International games
The first two games of the series will be played in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, aiming to attract the country's large Filipino population. The MPBL previously played two regular season games in Dubai in 2019 for their inaugural International Invasion series at Hamdan Sports Complex.[4] This time, the league's international games will take place at the Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall and will be organized by DJMC, the same group behind the previous leg of Dubai games.[3][5]
Series summary
For this year's national finals, the North Division champion will hold homecourt advantage for the series, as both the San Juan Knights and Pampanga Giant Lanterns (both 26–2), hold the better regular season record compared to all remaining South Division teams.
