William Michal Russell (born 5 February 2003) is a Canadian Martial Artist and Youtuber. He is a first Dan blackbelt in Taekwondo, a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and a blackbelt in Judo. He has amassed over ten thousand subscribers on YouTube, uploading martial art training and fitness videos.[1].
Martial Arts Background
William is a first Dan blackbelt in Taekwondo[2], a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and a blackbelt in Judo. He has competed in Pan-American and Worlds in all three sports. In Judo he is recognized with the record for longest undefeated streak in the U18 division going 42-0. He also competes in IBJJF worlds, where he is undefeated in heavyweight and free-weight blackbelt divisions in both Gi and Non-Gi[3]. In 2019 and 2020 he won the Judo U18 world championship, the only person to win back to back junior championships[4]. Through the 2020-2023 summer Olympics training season, he trained and resided with the Canadian Olympic Judo team, ultimately unable to compete due to injuries[5]. He is currently inactive[6].
Judo Style
He has a defensive style Judo stance, often counterattacking and shifting weight to overpower opponents. With the extensive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu background, often he scores by remaining in control even in sprawling situations.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Style
He has an extremely aggressive style, often submitting opponents in under a minute frequently using armbars as well as triangle and guillotine chokes. Often opting to stand up and fight most likely due to his extensive Judo training. He uses Judo throws and tosses actively in BJJ matches, often throwing opponents off with his strength and flexibility.
Taekwondo Style
He has a passive defensive style, often utilizing straight and side kicks to score on opponents.
Controversial Injuries
In 2022 it was announced that William would captain the Canadian Olympic Judo team, one month later it would be reveled that he would need to undergo multiple surgeries on his knee and shoulder sidelining him form competition. It was revealed later that an trainer for the team had been let go for "pushing athletes beyond realistic goals" and "punishing them severely when they failed". William had no previous history of injury before joining the Olympic team.
YouTube Carrer
Currently inactive, he has amassed over 10,000 subscribers uploading fitness and martial arts content. All content has been deleted and the channel has been inactive since 2023[7]
