In February 2001, President Egal removed Shaqale from his position as Commander of the National Army. He was replaced by Xasan Yoonis Habbane.[4]

In November 2013, it was reported that Shaqale was in dispute with Abdulahi Jaamac calas, a senior military official.[9]
In August 2014, Shaqale announced that its forces had overrun Sahdheer.[10]
In September 2014, Shaqale purchased $698,600 worth of weapons from the Ethiopian company Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC), reports in later years revealed.[11]
In January 2015, Shaqale was reportedly unpopular.[12]
In February 2016, he attended the celebration of the 22nd anniversary of the founding of the Somaliland Armed Forces.[13]

On August 15, 2016, President Somaliland announced a major change in personnel, and Shaqale was also ousted. He was replaced by Nuh Ismail Tani.[15]
