Naseer Ahmad Faiq is the Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, serving as chargé d’affaires since 17 December 2021 at the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations in New York.[1][2] Born and raised in Afghanistan, Faiq began his career in politics after joining the Afghanistan Foreign Service in 2005.
Faiq has held various positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. He served as the Deputy Director General for Regional Cooperation Directorate twice, once from 2016-2019 and again in 2012-2013. Faiq also served as a Minister Counsellor, Counsellor, and Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations from 2008-2019.
As a career diplomat, Faiq has been involved in many international conferences and forums. He has represented Afghanistan on the global stage on issues including human rights, regional cooperation, and political coordination. During his time at the United Nations, Faiq managed Afghanistan’s election to the Human Rights Council in October 2017 and was instrumental in negotiating outcome documents and resolutions.
Faiq received a bachelor’s degree in Administration and Diplomacy from Kabul University and a master’s degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
In December 2021, Faiq was appointed as Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the UN in New York.[3][4] The Taliban government's pick for UN Ambassador, Mohammad Suhail Shaheen, remains unrecognized, similar to the unrecognized Taliban rule itself.[4]
