Overview
The map shows a hilly area with the Rajmahal hills running from the bank of the Ganges in the extreme north to the south, beyond the area covered by the map into Dumka district. ‘Farakka’ is marked on the map and that is where Farakka Barrage is, just inside West Bengal. Rajmahal coalfield is shown in the map. The entire area is overwhelmingly rural with only small pockets of urbanisation.[2]

Demographics
According to the 2011 Census of India, Raghunandanpur had a total population of 8,335, of which 4,248 (51%) were males and 4,087 (49%) were females. Population in the age range 0–6 years was 1,903. The total number of literate persons in Raghunandanpur was 3,312 (51.49% of the population over 6 years).[1]

Among the civic amenities, it had 8 km roads with open drains, the protected water supply involved hand pump, tubewell/ borewell, overhead tank. It had 737 domestic electric connections. Among the educational facilities it had 1 primary school, 1 middle school, other educational facilities at Pakur 3 km away. An important commodity it manufactured was bidi.
