Sylvia Mann (born March 1990[1]) is an activist who was the editor of Freedom, a London-based anarchist website and biannual journal published by Freedom Press.[2][3] She is involved in London leftist protest politics and is engaged to Barrett Brown.[3] She was previously a fashion model.[4][5]
Career
Modeling
In the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s, Mann worked as a model.[4][5][6]
Mann is the subject of a 2023 photo-documentary book by Angela Hill. The pictures of Mann were shot when she was between 11 and 18 years old for Exit, Purple, and Dazed in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The book is described as being about "nature and being" and not fashion, giving "a worldview of one person". Hill said that she first met Sylvia, "she was talking about playing Pooh sticks with her mother" and that “when she arrived for the final photographs in this series, she was a cool college girl with a severe buzz cut and multiple piercings. One begins the teenage decade as a child and ends it as a woman, able to bear a child.”[7][8]
Journalism
She has written for The Independent,[9] and was the editor of Freedom, a London-based anarchist website and biannual journal published by Freedom Press.[2][3]
Personal life
In 2017, 2018, and 2019,[9][10][11] Mann was in a long-term relationship with Lauri Love.[4] As of 2024, she is engaged to and shares a small room with Barrett Brown in Bournemouth, England at her mother's house. According to New York Magazine, Brown was "laughing but not joking" when he called her "an ecoterrorist".[3]
