Merge
- Oppose merge One is the generic term, the other an extremely famous individual carpet. Why merge? Johnbod (talk) 15:08, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose merge Because the above statement is absolutely spot on. Mabalu (talk) 00:11, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- Oppose merge. The Ardabil Carpet has a unique notability above and beyond the general subject of carpet making in Ardabil. – Athaenara ✉ 21:14, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Title capitalization
Should the word 'carpet' in the title be capitalized? The phrase 'Ardabil Carpet' seems to be capitalized most of the times it appears in the article, however the quote from the book has carpet lowercase. I'd tend to think that carpet shouldn't be capitalized in the article in general, but thought I'd check and see what others thought. Loggie (talk) 12:48, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'd say it is a proper name & shgould be capitalized, as the V&A does[1]. Johnbod (talk) 13:00, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
- Who am I to go against what the V&A says-let's leave it capitalized then. Loggie (talk) 13:23, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
Year of origin of the carpet
In the sentence referred from The Story of the Carpet by Essie Sakhai (p.11) he concludes it was woven in 1539 or 1540, but the inscription on the carpet is said to read 946. Adding 622 to that year works out to 1568. Is the 946 wrong, or is there some other explanation? And the last sentence reads: "The incomplete remains of the other …" in his book, not " …remainder…". - It's not just +622, it's G=H-(H/33)+622, which gives 1539/40. Hijri is a lunar year, after all. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:13, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
File:Ardabil Carpet.jpg to appear as POTD
Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Ardabil Carpet.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on January 4, 2014. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2014-01-04. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. Thanks! — Crisco 1492 (talk) 00:13, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
metric conversion
There is something amiss with the bit in the second paragraph stating that the carpet contain "300–350 knots per square inch (470–540 knots per square metres)." If "300–350 knots per square inch" is correct, this would mean roughly 45-50 knots per square centimeter -- or 450,000-500,000 knots per square meter. (And the unit should probably be "square metre" rather than "square metres.") PurpleChez (talk) 00:36, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
