Lead Paragraph
Please check the changes I made on the Lead Para,"....ancient Tamil country which is corresponding roughly to the territories of the present-day Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Laccadives, parts of Andhra Pradesh and some parts of Karnataka, as well as Sri Lanka and the Maldives....."Shivaass (talk) 11:32, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes that's fine, although saying ancient Tamil country or Tamilakam should suffice. Lifebonzza (talk) 12:26, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I thought rather than just mentioning "ancient Tamil country" or "Tamilakam", elaborating the territories and countries involved in the lead para, will give more clear picture when we tag "Category: Tamil Buddhism" into the places other than Tamil Nadu.Shivaass (talk) 16:33, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes I also support the idea of being specific here - if not, readers will most likely consider only the modern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Sahrudayan (talk) 11:17, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
Original research
This article seems to consist almost entirely of original research. There are vague references to various objects, symbols, 'historians' and 'studies' with no supporting citations throughout the article. In addition the interpretation of symbols and conclusions also seem to be original research from the contributor, again with no citations. 86.27.140.75 (talk) 02:04, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
Vandalism
Following WP:BRD: Coppercholride did ask for the "basis" of "cutting down" diff. I think it would be fair if Blackknight12 followed his own request to discuss, instead of revert. Point by point, please.
By the way, removing maintenance tags isn't acceptable either. Greetings, Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 18:13, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry for the late reply, I must have missed this. The basis for my cutting is that although the article is called Tamil Buddhism (Buddhism among Tamil speaking people) it includes information on Buddhism in general or (Buddhism practiced by the Sinhalese people). For example, as you can see in the images (my edits on the right) the Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya, a Solosmasthana, and important place for Sri Lankan Buddhists is Tamilified because it is situated in the north in areas in Sri Lanka that mostly Tamils reside. As you can see the current caption of the image says "The Ancient Tamil Buddhist Shrine,[10] near the Nagapooshani Amman Kovil, Nainativu" it does not at all mention temples name, the Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya and at the same time is compared to a Hindu temple. The same is done with the first image.
Much of the information in the paragraphs do not inform us about Buddhism among Tamil speaking people, but talks of Buddhism in areas in which Tamils reside in Sri Lanka, solely in the Jaffna peninsula and Trincomalee whilst about half of the the Tamils in Sri Lanka reside in the South, central and western regions of the nation. There are no statistics or numbers of how many Tamil Buddhists there are. Many sentences unneeded while many others are lacking citations (which I have removed).
Little of this information has to actually do with Tamil people, rather it is Buddhism in Tamil residing areas, and the influence of Hinduism on it.--Blackknight12 (talk) 09:07, 29 June 2013 (UTC)

Reply by JJ:
- I think it might be wise to separate the edits of the picture-captions from the textual edits. it makes it easier to discuss those edits separately.
- I also think that the removal of sourced info should be discussed, and, when removed, be removed separately for each chunk of info. otherwise, it becomes very tempting to elude discussion and to (re)revert en masse.

Blackknight12's observation and interpretation are questionable.
If "Much of the information in the paragraphs do not inform us about Buddhism among Tamil speaking people, but talks of Buddhism in areas in which Tamils reside in Sri Lanka, solely in the Jaffna peninsula and Trincomalee.....", then what about the Tamil Buddhism in Tamil Nadu?
Should Tamil Nadu also be considered as "Little of this information has to actually do with Tamil people, rather it is Buddhism in Tamil residing areas, and the influence of Hinduism on it."?
Please note geographically the areas which were under the influence of Buddhism in Tamil Nadu and in Northern/Eastern Sri Lanka are closely located.Shivaass (talk) 13:55, 5 July 2013 (UTC)
