[edit]who are the founding states of COMESA? Dates of joining of the others? Alinor 22:36, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
It says on the COMESA webpage that only 11 members of COMESA are in a FTA. Not all 20. http://www.comesa.int/about/Overview/view
Contradiction in Libya's Joining Date
[edit]In the preamble Libya is said to have joined COMESA in 2006 where in the list further below the date is 2005
- I don't think this is a contradiction. As I read it, Libya joined COMESA in 2005, but didn't join the COMESA Free Trade Area (which is not the same thing) until 2006. (For example, the Comoros joined COMESA in 1981, but also didn't join the FTA until 2006.) I will remove the 'self-contradict' tag. Terraxos (talk) 01:47, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
South Sudan
[edit]What about South Sudan? Only because of the separation from Sudan they do not are automatically still member. On Comesa-Webpage South Sudan is not listed...

South Sudan 2019, not part of COMESA
[edit]- The following article: [1] makes it clear that South Sudan in fact did not join COMESA back in 2016 like was initially thought. This is despite articles dating from the time period (such as the following [2]) claiming that it had. Instead, it seems that what actually happened is that from May 2016 South Sudan started participating in some of the schemes/projects set up by COMESA without actually obtaining membership in the organisation. The situation is similar to that between Turkey and the EU, Turkey participates in some aspects of the EU (namely it is part of the EU customs union), but it is not a member of the EU. - Wiz9999 (talk) 02:29, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
