Separation of Powers

[edit]

User:Electionworld wants to emphasize the internal separation of powers within D66 (with Pechtold leaving as party chair), but I think that this is normal in Dutch politics (with one exception), so I've linked it to a discussion on party chairs in the Netherlands in general. I hope every one can agree on that -- C mon 08:51, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page

[edit]

The link to my user page has been removed. I fully agree with not linking to userpages. There is no entry about me and I won't start any. Electionworld = Wilfried (talk 11:13, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't "Lower House" in this sentence: "After the 2003 Lower House elections the party has three representatives in the Lower House:" be changed to "Upper House"?

I thought the Tweede Kamer was the Lower House and the Eerste Kamer was the Upper House? --82.143.195.87 21:32, 21 November 2006 (UTC) (Peter Lund, foreigner)[reply]

Only members of the Tweede Kamer (Lower House) get elected directly by the people. So the sentence is correct. Intangible 21:41, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The sentence refers to the 'Eerste Kamer', which is the Upper House, so it was wrong; I have take the liberty to correct it, and add some explanation to the text.

electorate

[edit]

"D66 voters...have strong post-materialistic values" Can this be rewritten? I probably know what it is trying to be said, but post-materialism in itself is just a theory, and not even a good one. Intangible2.0 16:47, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

D66 as a centre-left party

[edit]

Are there any references for D66 being a party of the centre-left? I ask as, from personal experience of conversations with Dutch people, I have found it referred to as a very moderate centre-right party.--Autospark (talk) 23:43, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

'Progressive' : a reference

[edit]

Firstly, progressive in English is a translation of 'vooruitstrevend' in Dutch. Maybe we should call sapir wolfe? Voor=Fore, forward, uit=out streven=striving : 'striving to reach out ahead'. but progressive in English; well, it kind of translates it. But it's also rather a confusing word in English, in this use, as -- for instance -- MS could be progressive but never vooruitstrevend. I've placed the example of Els Borst PhD MD as minister of Health, Wellbeing and Sport in the Purple Cabinet. Alongside being the first EU health-minister to do what I referenced, she also as minister legislated for the voluntary ending of life not to be illegal and criminal in certain circumstances as set out in her legislation. The reference I offer is from the Ministry HWS, or ministerie VWS.Barentsz (talk) 22:27, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

'Fiscal position: Centre to Centre-right

[edit]

'Fiscal Position' That is not what 'Fiscal' means. Can we please, please stop using idiotic American terms to describe European politics — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a02:1206:452c:e9e0:30a2:59dc:34e6:cdb6 (talk) 01:08, 19 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Democrats 66 → D66 (political party)D66 (political party) – D66 is the WP:COMMONNAME of this party, as seen in the logo as well. The name Democrats 66 is barely used. PhotographyEdits (talk) 13:10, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose we use the full name of political parties for article titles, not their common abbreviations.--Autospark (talk) 15:37, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That does not seem to be based on Wikipedia policies. MOS:ACROTITLE says "In general, if readers somewhat familiar with the subject are likely to only recognise the name by its acronym, then the acronym should be used as a title.". That seems to be the case here. PhotographyEdits (talk) 19:32, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, WP:NATURALDAB. BilledMammal (talk) 00:23, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The current is the official and most common name. Abbreviations might be more common, but should not be used as article names. --Checco (talk) 05:54, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @Checco Per WP:COMMONNAME and MOS:ACROTITLE, that is not true. PhotographyEdits (talk) 12:02, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stance on immigration

[edit]

I think the party's stance on immigration should certainly be included, given that it's a super hot topic in Europe and the Netherlands. MuchelH (talk) MuchelH (talk) 17:23, 10 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

I propose merging Leader of the Democrats 66 into this page. A simple list of the leader of a party isn't notable enough by itself and could very easily be added as a new section on this page. Vəssel [talk to mə] 09:34, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it is possible, see 50Plus. I also believe the current list gives too much information, and a more simple table would be more appropriate (and could be included). It would probably meet WP:NLIST tho, with sources like https://www.parlement.com/lijsttrekkers-d66 and https://dnpprepo.ub.rug.nl/88699/8/Op%20oude%20kousenvoeten%20naar%20het%20centrum%20van%20de%20macht%2C%20Hubert%20Smeets.pdf Dajasj (talk) 09:45, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure those sources establish notability for a list - a government website listing past leaders of a country is not really independent coverage of the list as a single collection, as WP:NLIST requires Vəssel [talk to mə] 11:48, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It is not a government website Dajasj (talk) 06:47, 28 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
