Melon ball
I have removed this text from Melon ball, since that page treats balls of melon and the tool used to make them. This seems like the most logical page for the information to end up in, but then again maybe it shouldn't end up anywhere, per WP:What Wikipedia is not.
- "Melon ball" is also the name of a cocktail, typically made with melon liqueur, vodka and orange juice.

Criteria for inclusion
So what are the criteria for a cocktail being included on this page? An IP deleted about fifty links because they were "not recognized by the International Bartenders Association or The Official International Professional Bartenders Organization", which I reverted because this wasn't a clear criteria for inclusion. They came back and deleted them again because they were "made up drinks, you are trying to make people think your drinks are real".
Where we should draw the line? Obviously we shouldn't be including genuinely "made up drinks" here, but clearly many of the drinks which fall outside the IBA/OIPBO list are still "real". We already flag IBA Official Cocktails as such; should we also flag those which are recognised by the IBA/OIPBO, if this is a significant body? --McGeddon (talk) 17:06, 20 November 2011 (UTC) I see what you are saying, yes, if wish to include them, please flag that they are not recognized drinks. Great compromise.
- We should follow Wikipedia notability guidelines and how most such lists operate on Wikipedia: if the drink has an article (passing notability, verifiability, reliable sources, etc.) then it can be included. Where things get grey is when a variation of a drink that has an article is listed. In many of these cases the variation is not notable (generally needs two independent reliable sources). That said, some of the drinks removed by the IP were not appropriate for the article like the Sunny Pirate and the Culture Shock. The article does need a very thorough vetting. SQGibbon (talk) 19:49, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- This is not true, I view OIPBO as an extension of IBA, of course there are real drinks that fall outside of both the organization and Association. However, the specific drinks are products of craft cocktail bars, which makes up approximately .003% of the bars in america. What's worse is these drinks, aren't made at every craft bar, so it's closer to .00095% This can not possibly be considered a true call. If everyone who made up a drink and put it on this list, how accurate would this list be? What constitutes a real drink, nobody can really define this truly, however, if you can not get a drink at 90% of the bars in your area, it shouldn't be anywhere on this list. Not that this should be a criteria, but it would provide a much more accurate "list of cocktails". 174.73.10.230 (talk)
- Well, "made up drinks"! They were all made up at one time. As for criteria for inclusion, several things...if the official bartending community wants to take responsibility for thoroughly and completely populating this page, let 'em. If not, can we not say that finding the recipe for a drink online a certain number of times indicates it's "realness." Geeze. Zlama (talk) 03:25, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
Firelighter
This seems to still be an issue [1]. Googling firelighter cocktail -Wikipedia [2] gives me a little over 200,000 ghits (your results may vary) and about one in four is for a cocktail called firelighter, but more important, the recipe seems to be consistent so it seems to me to be an established one and encyclopedic. Andrewa (talk) 19:26, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
PS note that the edit summary Removed red linked firefighter... (my emphasis) in the diff above is incorrect... it's firelighter. Andrewa (talk) 20:01, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

- Fixed. Thanks. --McGeddon (talk) 12:12, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- As part of our drive to tidy the page to have only notable cocktails maybe this should be removed (on the basis that if it were notable it would have a wikipage)?Icarusgeek (talk) 18:01, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
overall organization and links to liquor/liqueur pages
This page seems to start as a list of cocktails by liquor, e.g., Gin, Vodka etc. But further down it appears to turn into more of a list of types of liqueurs/liquors. Someone needs to decide where this page is going.
I added some flower/flower-based liqueurs under that heading. In trying to get the format right, I noticed that many liqueurs are not linked to their pages, although those pages do exist. Just general housekeeping. Zlama (talk) 03:20, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
Capitalization of cocktail names
Should all words in the names of cocktails be capitalized? I notice that "Pisco Sour" and "Tequila Sour" and "Brandy Sour (Cyprus)" have "Sour" capitalized, but "whiskey sour" not only uses lowercase for "sour", but within the article about the cocktail, it even uses lowercase for "whiskey". The strange pattern is repeated within the Sour article. —BarrelProof (talk) 18:00, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, how does this relate to policy, e.g., MOS:CAPS, which implies that most cocktail names would be lower case, except for proper names such as Pisco sour if Pisco refers to the place. Logical Cowboy (talk) 13:36, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
Champagne
The article contains two sections about cocktails with champagne, with considerable, if not total, overlap. What should be done here? JIP | Talk 21:21, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Brass Monkey
Brass Monkey is listed under Beer Cocktails but it seems to use only dark rum, vodka, and orange juice[1]. Should it be shifted out appropriately? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.23.171.19 (talk) 13:21, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

This list isn't alphabetical
I created a new page List of Cocktails (alphabetical) It got marked for speedy deletion and there is no "button" on the page to contest that
This list is "useful" but so is an alphabetical list. An alphabetical list is different than this list. This list is by liquor type. Not everyone knows what liqor is in a Harvey Wallbanger but they know the name Harvey Wallbanger.
I strongly object to the speedy deletion of list of cocktails (alphabetical) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xandermiller (talk • contribs) 20:21, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
Bullshot redirect to Bloody Mary
Hello, I've never done this before, so I apologize if I violate any rules. In any case, the link to the vodka-based bullshot is rerouting to bloody mary, both when clicked on and when typed in directly. I figured since they are different drinks, there must be some sort of issue, but I couldn't find the link to a bullshot myself to fix it. Sorry for any trouble, and thanks for keeping up with everything!

List of Tequila Cocktails
Many of the linked articles under Tequila are redirected to unrelated tequila brands and not the cocktail listed. Tinatortuga (talk) 07:59, 7 April 2022 (UTC)
Singapore Sling
Singapore Sling is listed under the brandy section of cocktails, however the drink's wiki page describes the drink as a gin based cocktail. One of these is incorrect. 66.58.132.223 (talk) 23:26, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
- The article says it has both gin and cherry brandy. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:18, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

- Blow My Skull → Blow my skull
- Chicago Cocktail → Chicago cocktail
- Curacao Punch → Curaçao punch
- Horse's Neck → Horse's neck
- Singapore Sling → Singapore sling
– Lowercase per recent discussions at Talk:Donkey punch (cocktail), Talk:Long Island iced tea, Talk:Black and tan, Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters#Capitalise cocktail names? and Talk:Black velvet (cocktail). Linguistically speaking, these are not proper names, and they are also not trademark names. This RM would produce consistency within List of cocktails#Brandy. Note that this suggests to add a diacritic in "Curaçao". Another one that might be a bit tricky is Chicago Cocktail, since the word "cocktail" is included directly in that title. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:10, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose horse's neck come on the WP Primary is a horse's neck. so Horse's neck (cocktail) cf also Horse's Neck (short story collection). In ictu oculi (talk) 17:42, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- If we find some article that extensively discusses the necks of horses, I suppose moving the cocktail article to Horse's neck (cocktail) is fine. The Equine anatomy article doesn't talk much about the neck, BTW. Since the proposal is to use lowercase, the proposed title is less ambiguous with Horse's Neck (short story collection) than the current title. — BarrelProof (talk) 18:55, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Error on the Horse's Neck article regarding date of origin
While doing research on the Moscow Mule, a related drink a found the Horse's article and looked at the sources used for the history section. The section says that it originated in the 1890s but I couldn't find anything the the book to suggest this. The earliest mention of this drink in the book that was cited came from 1907 in an issue of life magazine. I know this is a very niche complaint but alcohol mystery is already shrouded in enough myths that I feel this should be corrected. Thank you. SaltyCalculator (talk) 05:54, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
Reverting edits
@Ɱ: I don't understand why all my edits are getting reverted. Much of this list seems unnecessary with the amount of times a single cocktail is listed, and many of them seem to be extremely rare or niche cocktails that vlogs have mad up for the sake of publishing. The categorization of cocktails by mixer is also very unusual for discussing or listing this as well. Many of the drinks that are categorized by mixer don't even contain said mixer as an ingredient, such as the LIT. Is there a way we can talk this out either on here or the discord. SaltyCalculator (talk) 20:37, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Sazerac
Under "Absinthe", Sazerac is missing the "IBA" designation 67.86.78.27 (talk) 23:51, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Derby
I noticed that under "gin" the derby cocktail had the "IBA" designation tag. I couldn't find any indication that the Derby cocktail had any sort of IBA recognition. Therefore I believe it should be stripped off of that tag. XenoTheTurtle (talk) 11:41, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
- It used to be in the list of IBA official cocktails, but was removed in 2020. Accordingly, I will update the entry. Thanks for pointing that out. GalacticShoe (talk) 13:11, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
