New York Hard Core / Corps
I thought the core means:
Core as in a body of individuals; an assemblage.
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/core
The New York Hard "body of individuals / assemblage".
Thought I'd add this as I always understood the word to mean 'Core' as in a body of individuals or assemblage. Not as in the music genre known as "Hardcore Punk". I always understood it that although the term came around as a result of Hardcore (one word) Punk giving the idea for the title of its followers (two words). As I remember there were also other types of music involved with the 'Core'.
I can remember crossover groups such as S.O.D. being involved in the scene and I can rember thrash bands too(such as M.O.D., Nuclear Assault & Anthrax)
I can even remember the thrash band Anthrax using the N.Y.H.C emblem on the back of their t-shirts such as on the back print to the "Indians" t-shirt.
