Shouldn't this be Nguni peoples (in plural)? Gringo300 (talk) 16:35, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- No because the Zulus, the Xhosas, the Swazis and the Ndebele all form one entity, the Nguni. It shouldn't be a plural any more than Ndebele people, French people, Chinese people, Turkmen people, etc. ChrisDHDR 17:54, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- This is completely erroneous, no truer than saying the Dutch, German Germans, Austrian Germans, Swedes, Danes, Norwegians, English, & Icelanders are all one "entity, the Germans" because they all speak Germanic languages. Or that Serbs and Croats are "one entity" because they speak the same language.
- Nguni is a linguistic continuum. A national or ethnic entity is a grouping defined by internal sociological relationships. There is no such Nguni "entity." Chris Lowe (talk) 05:28, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Shaka / xhaka
Both xhaka Zulu and Shaka are used in different sections of this article. I believe that these are different romanizations of the same name. Should these be made to agree? xhaka Zulu is currently hyperlinked to the Shaka article. 98.249.103.11 (talk) 21:43, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm going to ahead and change them to "Shaka". If "xhaka" is a variant, I can't find it on the Shaka Zulu page. Also, the way it's used in this article, it is consistently uncapitalized, even at the beginning of a sentence, which would seem to break with standard practice on the English Wikipedia and in English generally. Tigercompanion25 (talk) 17:51, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- And just to be clear, I am aware that Zulu orthography does some things with upper-and-lower case letters that English doesn't (e.g., "isiZulu" or "Shaka kaSenzangakhona"), but on the English Wikipedia I see no reason why we shouldn't adhere to standard English usage where possible (note that the article for Chiang Kai-shek has not updated his name to Jiang Jieshi). Tigercompanion25 (talk) 17:57, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- The letter 'x' represents a click sound in the standard orthographies of all the various Nguni languages. Use of it to represent "sh" is probably an artifact of Portuguese transliteration, since in Portuguese 'x' is a sort of "zh" sound>. Former Portuguese colonization of southern Mozambique & Delagoa Bay have strong relationships to the history Northern Nguni peoples (Zulu, Swazi, Ndebele). Ubuntu
If the story about the Nguni philosophy "Ubuntu" told in the lead of the article Ubuntu is tru, it deserves a mention and a link here. If it is not true, the article Ubuntu should be amended (perhaps the story should be moved to a subsection setting the record straight), and perhaps it should still be mentioned here.--Nø (talk) 11:07, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
Conqueror Thabethe
Hi I'm concerned about the inaccuracy here Conqueror Thabethe also know as Mtheku. who is from Durban(Ethekwini) is not mentioned once as a leader. however it is noted that Shezi discover copper. through research one can conclude that copper was brought to the nguni People by Conqueror Thabethe. it is Documented that Shezi in Iraq was one of the birthplaces of the iron age and as luck would have it Shezi is part of the Thabethe Clan/Tribe. furthermore Dlamini is the only Dynasty on Africa that was never contested and they are deacendant of Thabethe. the leader of the Nguni People. I have noted that when the Dutch East India company settled in Natal they bought land from the Mpondos however no mention of Manzini is made. who is part of the Thabethe Tribe and had homestead in the heart of the Easter cape. with a city namesake just like Thabethe( known as Mtheku hence Ethekwini) what's fascinating is that Manzini travelled to Italy and is known of Italian origins however they are part of the Thabethe clan. which begs the question why is Conqueror Thabethe never mentioned for his work Thulaniadamsmission (talk) 17:27, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- We need proper WP:SOURCES for this.--Nø (talk) 19:04, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- alright No it will take great work however you could start by researching clan names and praises. you get these after doing something of note. eg Shaka took over. so he is referred to as the axe that jumped over other axes.also these clan names distinguish family ties. with Dlamini Ngubane and thabethe being one family. ngubane heads SA and Dlamini Swaziland of which this has never been contested. Thulaniadamsmission (talk) 05:50, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- even mbizana who is a Thabethe family member had their place turned to Winnie madikizela Mandela municipality Thulaniadamsmission (talk) 05:52, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
