Requested move 25 December 2024
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. There is clear consensus for the proposed title of Ossu, Timor-Leste. The alternate suggestion of Ossu on its own was opposed due to the diacritic in Õssu being deemed too small of a detail to distinguish between the articles. Ossu (East Timor) → Ossu, Timor-Leste – It is doubtful that "Ossu (East Timor)" is the official name of this populated place. It is also possible that "Ossu" alone is sufficient, since the only other entry in the disambiguation page Ossu has a diacritic in its name: Õssu. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 22:42, 25 December 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. - Support to Ossu with the DAB page being deleted per WP:SMALLDETAILS. A hatnote should cover any confusion. Turnagra (talk) 02:51, 26 December 2024 (UTC)
- For clarity, I'm also happy with the change to disambiguation if there is consensus against an overall lack of disambiguation, but I still maintain that SMALLDETAILS applies even if people may struggle with typing diacritics. Turnagra (talk) 23:13, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Could be moved to the base name as East Timor one has 44 views compared with only 9 for the Estonia one but note that per SMALLDETAILS the absence of the diacritics probably doesn't distinguish as English readers are unlikely to know to type diacritics. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:44, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment this should be held, and continue to be relisted until Wikipedia:Move review § Timor-Leste has been resolved, as that would impact this discussion. TiggerJay (talk) 05:10, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose Ossu. No clear primary topic between Ossu (East Timor), Õssu, and possibly Ossu Administrative Post (page views for reference: [1]). I agree with Crouch, Swale on SMALLDETAILS here. I'm fine with the proposed use of a comma. The country name should be consistent with however the move review and potentially reopened RM turn out. Adumbrativus (talk) 08:17, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Comment regarding Ossu, I would oppose that suggestion because while there is WP:SMALLDETAILS in that same policy, there also is WP:TSC and WP:TRANSLITERATE which suggest that at least a redirect should exist from Ossu to Õssu. Reliable Engligh sources appear mixed but slightly favor the non-diacritics variant, so some form of disambiguation is needed and the SMALLDETAILS do not seem sufficient. That leaves open the possibility for Ossu town vs [[Ossu village] which would be complaint, or retaining the country in the name. As far as Timor vs Timor-Leste, that appears to be still open for one more round of relisting. TiggerJay (talk) 06:36, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Given the recent closure of the parent topic, which is closed as move to 'Timor Leste'. See Talk:East_Timor#Requested_move_16_December_2024. – robertsky (talk) 18:32, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose disambiguation change, nonstandard for Timor-Leste articles. CMD (talk) 01:58, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Support. Either Ossu, Timor-Leste or Ossu, East Timor as per other places in Category:Populated places in Timor-Leste and as per the policy Wikipedia:Article titles#Disambiguation. Which reads, in part, "With place names, if the disambiguating term is a higher-level administrative division, it is often separated using a comma instead of parentheses". - There is no place in Category:Populated places in Timor-Leste with this format. These are not higher-level administrative divisions, they are towns. CMD (talk) 02:12, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- What's Same, East Timor and Suai, Timor-Leste doing in Category:Populated places in Timor-Leste? Are they not populated? Ossu is a town as is Same. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 02:58, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oh, I misunderstood you. The "higher-level administrative division" referred to in the policy is the disambiguation term and not the town or city. For example British Columbia is the disambiguation term for Terrace, British Columbia and Alaska is for Anchorage, Alaska. CambridgeBayWeather (solidly non-human), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 03:03, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Well Suai shouldn't be there, I've requested an RMUN. Didn't see Same. If I have misunderstood higher-level administrative division, then we should probably reconsider all these disambiguations, as the towns have the same name as their districts/posts. CMD (talk) 03:10, 24 January 2025 (UTC)

- Support now that the East Timor article has been moved to Timor-Leste, all articles about a city, town or village in Timor-Leste requiring disambiguation should be named as either "[name of settlement], Timor-Leste" or '[name of settlement], [name of relevant municipality or suco]". Such a naming convention would be in line with a neighbouring country, Australia, eg Arthur River, Western Australia is an article about the town, and Arthur River (Western Australia) is an article about the river.
