SMN
ME,
Why did you delete almost all of my expansion of the article? The edit comments don't really do justice to all of that material being deleted. I appreciate the work you're doing on Somalia and journalists there. I'm just puzzled. Thank you, Crtew (talk) 07:29, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- The material placed undue weight on SMN's earlier travails with Al-Shabaab, back when the Islamist outfit was unified and controlled much of Mogadishu prior to its 2011 eviction. This is not why SMN is notable or was awarded the RSF journalism prize; it's for its actual reporting. This material is also dealt with on the List of journalists killed during the Somali civil war, including the specifics on the killed SMN reporters. Also note that Al-Shabaab is actually on the brink of collapse (c.f. [1]). Middayexpress (talk) 13:53, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yes but an encyclopedia captures more than what is going on currently. This was a significant part of the history of SMS, and while I agree it won an award for its reporting, it informed the reason given in the citation. Also there was material deleted that didn't have to do with Al-Shabaab and was sourced.Crtew (talk) 14:08, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- The other material was in a similar vein i.e. that SMN was under duress of some sort. The point is, it's undue weight because this is not the subject of the article nor is it what SMN is mainly noted for; especially nowadays with Al-Shabaab's imminent implosion. The specifics on the deaths of the SMN reporters are also already covered on the link-thru above. Middayexpress (talk) 14:39, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- This article has a lot of missing information. It is one of two important, private media networks, and the presentation here is wanting. How do you suggest we turn this around. I tried to start the process. I'm curious as to what you would think we need to do. Perhaps we might share the task and ease the other's path! Crtew (talk) 14:45, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- The page should focus on providing neutral, fact-based, and up-to-date information on SMN and its services, including its broadcasting services and range, current directors, headquarters, and its day-to-day operations i.e. what SMN is and does. It should not focus on what Al-Shabaab does, especially when there's at least two other pages already devoted to that. Middayexpress (talk) 15:04, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Perhaps a good place to start would be to expand the infobox. Is there material you would like to search for? Crtew (talk) 15:32, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'll add the management info shortly. Middayexpress (talk) 15:33, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- Great, I'll stop by later and add something more.Crtew (talk) 15:39, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- What exactly? If it's in the same vein as before, we're back to square one. Middayexpress (talk) 15:45, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
