Shindig as a Firefly term
I think this page should mention the use of the word "shindig" in Firefly fandom. Shindig is used to refer to a Firefly marathon watching party. All the Firefly episodes are shown. Sometimes there are fun events to go along with the viewing. Fruity Oaty bars or mudders milk may be served. Strawberry eating contest. (Eat a strawberry like Kaylee.)
- I've heard it also used in reference to Firefly conventions. Runa27 22:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- Having heard it is not enough. We need a reliable source, by Wikipedia definitions. (Fan-created terms are notoriously unsourceable.) Have there been any publications that have made references to the parties or conventions as "shindigs"? ~ Jeff Q (talk) 02:15, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Does "Done the Impossible" documentary count? Just saw it (at a shindig actually!) and it mentions shindigs plange 03:24, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Wow! We Browncoats sure know how to find those grey areas between fandom and professional publication. I'm sorry to save I don't have a copy of this (yet), but as I understand it , Done the Impossible is a very professionally produced documentary (good) by fans (bad), supported by professional writers like Orson Scott Card and Margaret Weis (good) and the show's cast and crew (good), but produced by a DVD-parallel to a vanity press (bad). It doesn't show up either on Amazon.com or in the Library of Congress, which is a major hit against it for most serious sourcers (which we should all be). But it's implicitly supported by everyone involved in the show, which makes it significant. I'm really at a loss. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 04:47, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
