Rana Arnunsingh Sodha of Amarkot was lured by Jinnah with attractive promises if he opted for Pakistan instead of India. He was also given a mission of convincing Maharaja Hanwantsingh of Marwar ( Jodhpur ) , Maharana Bhupalsinghji of Mewad ( Udaipur ), Maharaja Sawai Mansingh of Amer ( Jaipur ) & Maharaja Pratapsinh Gaekwad of Baroda to also join Pakistan & he was given further promises for this mission. Blinded by personal greed , he went first to Maharaja Hanuwantsinghji of Marwar who readily agreed to his offer. Thereafter , he went to Udaipur & Jaipur who were not really convinced but sort of confused. He then came to Baroda & met Maharaja Pratapsinhrao of Baroda with his offer on behalf of Jinnah. Merger negotiations were at full steam then at Baroda. Period was fag end of 1947 A.D. Maharaja Pratapsinhrao directed him to my late father , Shrimant Sardar Major Malharrao K. Mane of Baroda , who was the Settlement Commissioner for merger & he was at helm of the affairs . After a full day discussion with him , my father was called by Maharaja Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad for his view. My father sternly told him that the Rana is mad , has gone blind in his personal greed & even thinking on such proposal will be suicidal. Not only this , he made Maharaja Pratapsinhrao to talk immediately on hot line with Maharaja Hanuwantsinghji whose real younger sister , Rajendrakumaribaisa and Padmawatiraje after marriage, was recently married to then Yuvraj Fatehsinhrao Gaekwad in 1944 A.D. , & so they were very closely related & so he was finally convinced to revert from this decision. Udaipur & Jaipur were even otherwise not inclined & so a major blunder was avoided ! Rana Arjunsinghji Sodha of Amarkot opted for Pakistan instead of India. Rest is history. Rana betrayed his own Hindu subjects for his personal greed. His Hindu subjects are leading a miserable life in Pakistan with their fundamental rights suspended. From 85 % population at the time of merger , they are now reduced to less than 50 % in their district. Over 80 % of Tharparkar district is in Military control since decades & Sodhas are fleeing as refugees to India on every chance. The Rana of Amarkot failed his duty towards his subjects in taking care of his personal interests. Shameful & Disgraceful act which history will never forget. Thus shared this authentic & true information. — Bharatsinh M. Mane , Baroda / Vadodara. Mob. No. 09428876997.
Why did the Hindu king of Amarkot opt for Pakistan despite a Hindu majority in the state?
