Software development is my profession, with hobbies being Carnatic music (South Indian Classical Music), 3D Photography, uploading photos to Wikimedia commons, Humour collections and supporting couple of charity organizations.
Wiki plans
Plan is to increase the information available in Wikipedia related to Carnatic music, especially on Melakarta rāgams, janya rāgams, rāgam relationships and Carnatic music terminology, like Graha bhedam.
Plan to also contribute to WikiProject Indian music and possibly to WikiProject India in some small way. Here are couple of photos of the scenic Hogenakkal Falls area in Tamilnadu.
Carnatic music (கருநாடக இசை) contributions in Tamil Wikipedia is another area of interest.
And then, of course if time permits, let us see if we can collaborate to improve Wikipedia... Throw in some suggestions here and there to improve articles... Revert some edits that are obviously incorrect, not required or simply misleading... Patrol some old new pages (from the back of unpatrolled pages list)... And leave alone subjects that dont know much about...

DYK contributions
On 7 September 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Melakarta (asampurna scheme), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the original Melakarta scheme in Carnatic music, still in use today, has no scientific or mathematical rules? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Melakarta (asampurna scheme). You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
Articles started
Started raga articles for 61 of 72 melakarta and 32 of the hundreds of janya in Carnatic music. Started a handful of pages on other Carnatic music terms as well. Started about 60 pages in Tamil Wikipedia as well.
Created illustration of musical scales in GIF format and later in SVG format. They are available at Wikimedia Commons gallery - Melakarta ragams GIF files, Melakarta ragams SVG files and janya ragams SVG files.
Created similar illustration using Tamil script for the musical notes and loaded them in Commons at மேளகர்த்தா இராகங்கள் (melakarta) and ஜன்னிய இராகங்கள் (janya). These were done in couple of hours using Microsoft Excel combined with manual coding of the base SVG. The same can be repeated for other scripts, including Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Devanagri (which may be of immediate use in those wikipedia namespaces). Let me know if anyone needs such images.
Hoggennekkal has its own lone tree on the rock, like the hyped Californian lone cypress. Let us see how this is viewed all over.
