Hi @Hurricanehink . thanks for reaching out. In the past I have researched East African climate, and I remain interested in the direct and indirect effects on the region from TCs occurring in the southwest (and to some extent northwest) indian ocean basin. I have a couple of papers that include analysis of TCs, which I can share if you would like.

I suspect the cyclones in this region get some of the least attention? as such, when i have time, i will try to contribute something for key cyclones. I am interested in both historical, recent, ongoing, and near and distant future TCs.

I am open to suggestions of particular things you think need work, and putting them on a to-do list for me, or working together on them. DecFinney (talk) 19:07, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oh awesome, I've worked a bit on the areas you talked about, such as List of Horn of Africa tropical cyclones, List of Mascarene Islands tropical cyclones, Tropical cyclones in the Comoros Islands, and List of Southern Africa tropical cyclones (the latter is pretty incomplete). Lists are easier because you don't have to get into as much detail, provided you can get a good death or damage total. There's also a need eventually for a List of Madagascar tropical cyclones, which would be rather lengthy since they get hit almost every year. There are also some really important storms in the area that could probably use some work, like Cyclone Gafilo. Do you think you'd be more likely to work on lists or on individual articles? @Hurricanehink im probably most likely to edit individual articles. ive noted to have a look gafilo, id not heard of it. feel free to share other individual cyclones you think are important and need work. i may not come to them right away as Im working on some other pages at the moment, but i will keep a to-do list.

my main interest is in the science and meteorology associated with more unusual/extreme tropical cyclones in the SWIO, as well as potential indirect effects on seasonal weather in regions, like Kenya, not directly hit by the TC. I am also happy to work on impacts if the storm interests me. e.g. storms landfalling in tanzania interest me because they dont occur often. DecFinney (talk) 20:27, 16 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Nice, yea I agree that individual storms are more interesting. I'm guessing you're talking about a storm like Cyclone Hidaya, which struck Tanzania. It might need an article, but you'd have to find a good bit of information that's not currently in the season article. There's also the 2022 KwaZulu-Natal floods, caused by a subtropical depression right off the coast of South Africa, an area rarely affected by tropical cyclones. Cyclone Kenneth also affected southeastern Africa and was the strongest storm on record hitting Mozambique. There's also Cyclone Gamede, which was the wettest storm on record, which affected the SWIO back in 2009. There are tons of storms with articles that need work, so I don't want to share the entire list, just a few options. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:18, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
