New article
Hello, Keizers! I love your new article San Diego County Administration Center. Do you think you could expand the prose text a little, so that I can nominate it for Did You Know? Thanks! --MelanieN (talk) 17:27, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Sure will! I added some photos I took to Commons and then to the article too. Keizers (talk) 18:32, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- Great! It is long enough now. I will start thinking about a hook. I may tweak it a little too. You might consider moving the pictures around a little so they don't interrupt the text - maybe place the gallery at the bottom of the page. Also I think the photo of the building itself (nice photos BTW!) should be included in the body of the article; maybe move it up out of the gallery, and put the west entrance detail there instead.--MelanieN (talk) 19:34, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
- OK, it's nominated. You can follow the nomination here: Template:Did you know nominations/San Diego County Administration Center. --MelanieN (talk) 18:42, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
- Whoa - I just discovered it is on the National Register of Historic Places. I didn't realize it earlier, because it is registered under the name San Diego Civic Center. Listed May 16, 1988, listing # 88000554 . We need to add that to the article, prominently, and we may need an additional userbox. Do you want to add this or shall I? Here's an infobox creator tool: http://www2.elkman.net/nrhp/infobox.php . --MelanieN (talk) 18:52, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

DYK for San Diego County Administration Center
Hello! Your submission of San Diego County Administration Center at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Hi! Thank you for creating this article which was nominated for DYK, however, I noticed some issues when reviewing it. There appears to be close paraphrasing and a lack of inline citations in some places. If you or the nominator fix these problems, it should be good to go. Thanks! I haven't forgotten about this article, I have just been busy in Real Life. I will definitely nominate it for DYK, it's very deserving. I was going to ask if you wanted to nominate it yourself this time - but it turns out that the DYK process has suddenly gotten a whole lot harder. In theory, and until recently, the usual procedure is that one person reviews it, asks any questions or gives any advice, and eventually approves it. But right now there is a lot of second-guessing going on by the people who promote the hooks to the queue. It can take two or three rounds of re-evaluation before everybody is happy. You can see that happening at the Custom House nomination, and at my Fiesta del Pacifico nomination. So I suggest that you let me handle this one. OK? --MelanieN (talk) 21:08, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
- BTW you might want to add an infobox. It would let you get all that birth-and-death information out of the lead sentence. Here's one that could work: Template:Infobox architect. --MelanieN (talk) 01:19, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
- I've been working on a DYK. I took the liberty of expanding the article a little since it did not quite meet the length requirements. I'd like to do a DYK based on the earthquake standards, but the only source I have found that connects him to those standards or that law is that one article from the Journal of San Diego History. None of the other histories of the Field Act or Riley Act seem to mention him. I'm hesitant to use it without additional sourcing since the reviewers have gotten so picky lately. I'll keep working on it. --MelanieN (talk) 22:09, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
- Actually never mind about this; I think I'll use a San Diego Zoo hook instead. --MelanieN (talk) 09:52, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- BTW quite a few of the buildings he designed or co-designed are on the National Register of Historic Places - do you think we should work that into the article in some way? --MelanieN (talk) 22:11, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

Tijuana Cross-border Terminal
Thank you for replying, I still do not quite understand how Talk works or where I respond. Here or on the other page under rnieders. If the image appeared in a U.S. news paper like the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune, is that fair use? I was also the project manager of the project and designed part of the cross-border terminal, 3 of the images I do own, the 3 others where given to me while I was involved in the negotiations and were also given to the media for promotion of the project, is that not fair use? Pictures are an essential part of the article, especially original pictures Rnieders (talk) 14:51, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Hello Keizers, you redirected the cross-border terminal background which I wrote to a new page, called cross-border terminal, Tijuana International Airport. I started the project in 1990 and was actually the project manager of the project for GAP in Mexico until 2001, but somehow I must have uploaded the pictures wrong as they are in the process of being deleted. You seem to understand Wikipedia well, the pictures are an integral part of the article but Stefan2 from Sweden says they all must be deleted as they are not fair use, even though they came from public entities, such as the City of San Diego and the San Diego Association of Governments and appeared in news print. Could you direct me into submitting these pictures correctly? It would be greatly appreciated Rnieders (talk) 04:04, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Again, thank you for the reply, I hav read the WP:NFCC several times as well as WP:File copyright tags, images I created I assume I must upload to commons, but I cannot understand how images given to promote the project and used by the Los Angeles Times cannot be uploaded when WP:File copyright tags states "for image freely provided to promote an item, as in a promotional photo in a press packet." The images not owned by me where from promotional material and I was the project manager of the project and presented the project before the U.S. State Department. I cannot understand this Rnieders (talk) 16:18, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
I noticed you redirected the edit I did on the Tijuana International Airport to a new main page title Cross-Border Terminal, Tijuana International Airport, could this be changed to Tijuana Cross-border Terminal, which is what it was always called since the 1990s and in all negotiations. Also when cross-border terminal is Googled right now, it goes first to the Tijuana International Airport. I have also requested that all the files/images I uploaded incorrectly be deleted. I do not know if I can do it or the administrator has to. But I have found all the images which I created for the negotiations and which I own, those I will load to commons. Thank you for your guidance Rnieders (talk) 13:11, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for all your help, I dug out my old files and found replacement images which I own so that there is no issue about copyrights. They were all in Spanish and my disks from 1990-3 tried to convert them to word 2010, no success, had to recreate everything. Images are important to understanding the article. I also forgot a few items that have to be added to both the history of the airport and article, minor and short, just a couple of sentences. I spent a lot of time with Gilberto Valenzuela who as Minister of Public Works 1964-1970, not only did Mexico Olympics but also rebuilt the Tijuana airport and changed the runway orientation from 10-28 to 09-27 due to an incident at the inauguration of the Friendship Dam in Texas, Valenzuela and my godfather Octavio Vejar Vazquez were very close friends, and that is why I had so much access to people in this process, but people pass on and a new generation comes and forgets commitments. Thank you for all your help and all the best Rnieders (talk) 20:20, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
As for the opening of the crossing, they are grading on the U.S. side and with performance bonds, that means they will be done within a year, I was suppose to be the project manager, helped Sam Zell's people and the Mexican investors secure the land and gave them all the information, 20 years worth of work, they hired the guy I trained and the son-in-law of one of the partners (Laura) is also now running the project. That is life Rnieders (talk) 20:27, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Keizer. All the old pictures were deleted from the article and new ones were uploaded yesterday, all of which I created for promoting the Tijuana cross-border terminal, plus I corrected and added a few more things to the article's time line. Thnk you for your help. Rnieders (talk) 17:32, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
Hello Keizer, there were some comments which I did not quite understand but it seems you corrected them. You know how to write articles, I do not, still confused by the protocols. Thank you for your help Rnieders (talk) 18:31, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

South Coast Plaza–John Wayne Airport edge city
Hello Keizers, I missed the discussion regarding this move, could you provide the link? I would also like to see the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities for this new type of entity. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 00:21, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- Neither is required per se, Fettlemap, do you have an issue with the enhancement or with the idea of having an entry for an edge city? Keizers (talk) 00:29, 25 June 2019 (UTC)
- I appreciate all the improvements you have made to numerous geographic articles. We certainly need more people willing to do that. That is not the issue here. My concern is that the article on a common place name has been written over with a term from an academic work. The guidelines are clear about using commonly recognizable names for place name articles. The title is South Coast Plaza–John Wayne Airport edge city is not a common place name per these Wikipedia standards and includes a description edge city which is not included in place name article titles but in the text (capital city, port city, unincorporated community, etc). Since you have done a lot of editing in the past couple days to write a new and different article under the new title, this might be fine for an article on an academic subject. We can split it apart. I can recreate the [March 2019 version] for the common place name South Coast Metro and have them write over the redirect. The other option is just to change the name back and the scholarly name for the area becomes a section of the South Coast Metro article. Let me know your preference in resolving this Thanks, Fettlemap (talk) 23:19, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- Fettlemap, gotcha. I reinstated the old "common" title and adjusted the lede accordingly. Let me know what you think. Keizers (talk) 23:28, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for reverting the name change. The "edge city" article needs work and could use your energy and expertise. Cheers, Fettlemap (talk) 20:58, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

Downtown Los Angeles
Thanks for the work you do on this topic!!! I especially like the Victorian Downtown page. I am related to one man who was president of the City Council in 1889-90 and worked in the City Hall, and who was president of the California Bank (2nd and Braodway) in the early 1980s, and who, as part of a syndicate, purchased the entire block bounded by 7th, Broadway, 6th, and Hill Streets. He purchased three lots, sold two (dang), and built a building on Broadway just north of 7th Street. In the early 1900's, the Lankershims and my relative leased their three lots to someone else (I forget who), and a very large building was built on the corner, one that became Bullock's original building. It's kind of neat to have some (long-ago) connections to this history! I focus (currently) on Los Angeles transportation history, and I'm (very slowly) building the Los Angeles Railway article into somehthing that represents more of its history. I must say it's great to find descriptions of the area where great-great-grandpa lived and worked. 1951bfrj (talk) 01:32, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the complement. It's been a while since I worked on it, it was an intense effort for about a year. I also did my own site victoriandtla277421332.wordpress.com but it's mostly the same content. I always browsed here and there about the pre-1920 history, but became frustrated I couldn't remember what was where, and during what time period. So I decided to create that. Block by block and decade by decade. The real clincher was when I realized that the ENTIRE downtown of 1910 or earlier, had been completely razed to the ground, mostly for the Civic Center and other government buildings, with the exception of the Plaza area, and a handful of buildings along 3rd. I felt like I had discovered a lost city! Keizers (talk) 05:47, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
I've seen your appeal
I just want to let you know that I've seen your appeal here, and am considering it. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:41, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- @ScottishFinnishRadish:Just a polite nudge, still thinking about it? Not urgent, just wondering. A few minor constructive things on Palestine/Israel I've seen that could have used copyrighting. thanks.Keizers (talk) 20:16, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, I've been exceedingly busy irl and haven't had much time to devote to Wikipedia. I'll try to take care of this soon, hopefully this weekend. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 10:56, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry about the delay. Appeal accepted, and I urge you to listen to other editors when they're pointing out a potential issue with your editing. It's all too easy to lose perspective. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 20:37, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I fully agree! Keizers (talk) 21:54, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
- It should be noted that Keizers has gone to, if not as problematic, at least questionable edits connected to the ones that landed them in trouble. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 22:22, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Nat. I’m not pushing back on your edits to my edit, at all. And I believe there was an improvement to the article resulting from that interchange between us. Would you be more comfortable with me not making any edits at all to certain articles? What would be the scope that you would suggest? Keizers (talk) 00:35, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not the person who topic banned you, nor set the terms of your release; I was assuming that SFRadio is likely monitoring this conversation (if they don't comment in the next couple days, I may point them here), and theirs is the more important view. But it does raise my concern when I see you doing anything along the axis of UNRWA controversy/WSJ co-author/the Landeses, both for you as that was the path to your problems, and for me because I've already been put in the position of policing them to the degree that took a lot of my time. If I were in the position to set limits, I would not define it simply as a list of articles, in part because in the past you've created multiple articles and at least one category simply in the pursuit of this one matter. I would suggest avoiding not only any articles on the UNRWA controversy, the WSJ, the co-author, or the Landeses, but any edit closely related to any of those things regardless of the page. That is not a large cut-out, that is a fraction of a percent of just the Israel/Palestine material on Wikipedia. There is much to edit away from that temptation.
- (And lest there be any question, no, I did not request your topic ban. Despite your immediate focus in the face of the ban in supposing there was some sort of arrangement that was supposed to be gone through to reach that point with certain people being "authoritative" to complain, that's not how these bans work. While any user is free to file a complaint at WP:ANI or other relevant boards, administrators are free to make that judgment quickly on contentious topics.) -- Nat Gertler (talk) 01:24, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate you taking the time to explain. I don’t want to cause you extra work. Honestly the article popped up in my Watchlist and I thought that that minor point about the family talent (regardless of political views, it is strong, admirable talent put to use) was relevant and was actually a positive attribute to the family. I find myself sometimes lacking social awareness about how my actions or speech or writing can be construed by others. But, I can easily refrain from those topics so it doesn’t cause work or worry. And thanks for clarifying the point about how the topic ban process works, in fact I didn’t think you in particular requested it, as I did notice it happened after a “coatrack” and another editor told me there was no choice but ANI. I am sorry for the worry and work caused due to the edit on Landes. Keizers (talk) 10:57, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Keizers, before your topic ban, one of the places your multiple attempts to add content about Aliza Landes to Wikipedia was discussed that is still accessible to non-admin is a discussion about a merge proposal from one of the articles you created with the same/similar content about Landes to another article where you added the same/similar content about Landes, e.g. [1]. I had only become aware of these multiple attempts across multiple articles after participating in an AfD for an article you created about Aliza Landes, with the same/similar content. From my view, before ScottishFinnishRadish implemented a tban, multiple editors had explained various reasons about why this poorly-sourced content was problematic, but you do not appear to have listened, because it seems as if you suggest this same/similar content that you had previously attempted to add across multiple articles (as part of a 'WSJ controversy') should now be added to a BLP as a "minor point about the family talent (regardless of political views, it is strong, admirable talent put to use) was relevant and was actually a positive attribute to the family." Beccaynr (talk) 13:03, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Beccaynr:, thank you for that! You are right, and I overlooked the fact that in addition to my need to avoid implicating guilt by association, regardless of RS writing "about" the subject, that poorly sourced content was also an issue. I was thinking of the former when I made the most recent edit, and overlooked the second (I simply pasted the previous sources for what I thought was the positive attribute). While the Atlantic and Middle East Eye are considered RS (considering the aim which is simply to mention the career of the family members, if related, as is usual in a BLP), the YouTube and podcast sources were weak. In addition to avoiding edits of any sort anywhere on the topics of UNRWA, the related WSJ article and the Landeses, I'll be critical of my sources as well on BLP. Thanks for taking the time to explain, and I want to apologize for the time you previously had to take in order to address my problems regarding those topics. Keizers (talk) 13:34, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- I was just writing on the article talk page about the BLPBALANCE 'guilt by association' issue, and I appreciate your attention to that aspect, and various sourcing issues, as well as your apology. From my view, you seem to be a prolific researcher, and to echo SFR's advice, I encourage you to slow down and take time to incorporate community input when considering whether and how to add what you have compiled, especially to articles covered by CTOPs. Thank you, Beccaynr (talk) 13:57, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Mid to late 20th century SoCal retailing
I would like to thank you for the hard work you have been during the past decade in trying to improve the WP articles concerning the history of retail stores in Southern California.
I would like to bring to your attention of a few articles that I have been trying to improve by digging up relevant citations that previously editors did not bothered to locate which helped to fill in a lot of glaring holes and corrected a few misconceptions. I am bring this to your attention since you might have access to other subscription-based resources that I might not have access to which might be able to fill in the remaining holes that I could not fill due to lack of access to certain online newspaper archives.
- Sav-On Drugs – Currently a re-direct to an section that I have screated on an article that primarily discuss the history of Osco Drug Store. I hope to add enough material in this section so that it could be spit-off as a separate article from the time the chain was founded by Christain Call in 1945 to the time the company was acquired by the The Jewel Companies, Inc. in 1980 or when brand was first eliminated by new parent American Stores a few years later.
- Lucky Stores - Is the article about a defunct company? Or is the article is about a brand that is being used by two separate and distinct companies that uses different logos and websites? I tried to help clarify the article. Still missing citations about the time when Albertsons closed its Lucky stores in Southern California around 2010-2012. Could use your help in this. Should the article be split into 2 or 3 separate articles like what was done with El Pollo Loco (the original article was split into 3 articles)?
- White Front - I am almost finished locating newspaper articles that describe individual store openings in Southern California, though those section could be expanded to better describe the stores and the glitzy opening events that were usually televised live. Still need more citation about store openings in Seattle since I don't have access to those newspaper archives. Still need to expand and totally rewrite the store closing section. Can't find much information about the short-lived appliance only stores that Interstate tried to open just before the parent company filed for bankruptcy. Still need to write the section about the chain being founded by Harry R. Blackman, a redheaded 20-something who opened a small grocery store in an economically depressed neighborhood of L.A. a few weeks before the start of the Great Depression that grew to become the largest discount department store chain within the L.A. Basin by the mid-1960s. After Blackman became rich, he moved to Beverly Hills.
In the process, I was also got sidetracked into cleaning-up some of the related articles about some of the acquiring companies.
Please let me know if anything I just mentioned here might be of interest to you since if we are able to work together, we might be able to improve some potentially interesting articles in a very short amount of time. 96.82.59.129 (talk) 00:01, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note and your nice complement! I have to admit my real passion is department stores and on-street retail districts, but I did do some work on grocery and appliance/electronics stores when I went down rabbit holes wondering one thing or another about the chains I came across when writing about retail districts ... I don't really have knowledge beyond the edits that I already did. If helpful, I do have access to Newspapers.com through the Wikipedia Library (access is free when you do a certain number of edits in a certain period of time. If there are specific things I can look for in the Times, let me know.Keizers (talk) 13:37, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have seen your work in cleaning up the articles on the big 4 L.A.-based department stores that eventually got swallowed up by Macy's (i.e., The Broadway, Bullock's, May Company California, and J. W. Robinson's) and a few of the L.A.-based discount department stores, such as Hartfield-Zodys (plus a few others that I have forgotten). The White Front article might be closest to your general interests since the company had competed with the likes of Zody's, Fedco, The Akron, and Unimart (California) before the company imploded and disappeared prior to the arrival of K-mart, Target, and Walmart to SoCal. The White Front article could use a lot of clean-up since I did most of the heavy lifting be writing bare bones sentences with pointers to hard to locate newspaper articles. One or two newspaper.com clippings might be nice. From my understanding, the grand opening events for each White Front stores were large productions that were televised live from the store that might involve a state governor (Jerry Brown's dad) and upcoming (or downward moving) TV and film actors. Please do not underestimate yourself, I saw the article that you had created about the Barker Bros. retail furniture chain (plus several other defunct stores). 96.82.59.129 (talk) 15:58, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Here are some White Front articles to get you going. Some star appearances at grand openings in there, as you mentioned. Currently I am updating the maps of old DTLA retail district with additional information, so I am busy for a while...I don't underestimate myself haha, but I find hypermarket/white goods/etc. less interesting and supermarkets really not at all. But definitely let me know if I can do more searches on newspapers.com for you, happy to do it. Keizers (talk) 21:58, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Please turn on the syntax highlighter gadget
A few of us have had to visit {{Street grid of landmarks in the Historic Core, Los Angeles}} periodically to clean up syntax errors that your editing is leaving behind. Can you please activate the syntax highlighter gadget? Go to Preferences - Gadgets. It will help you avoid editing errors that others need to clean up for you. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:47, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Please activate the syntax highlighter gadget. Editors continue to clean up your careless edits, which are 100% preventable with the gadget. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:49, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have activated the gadget. It does not seem to show *all* errors. I try to be careful, so it's not entirely helpful to characterize me as "careless". But I understand that your are frustrated with seeing the same types of errors over and over, and that has led to your (visible) frustration. We all get that way sometimes. Nonetheless, it's always best to assume good faith. If you'll look at my edit history, you'll see that I'm a prolific researcher, creator and editor and I do care very much. These edits are for templates that are rather complex because they involve the meaningful use of italics and small text. I would certainly like to prevent the errors. Is it possible for me to have access to the same tools that you do in order to be made aware on the faulty syntax that is still remaining, despite me having the gadget turned on? Keizers (talk) 16:23, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- The key feature of the syntax highlighter that you can pay attention to is the color of the background, assuming that you can perceive the colors that it uses. If the background suddenly changes from a mix of yellow, pink, and gray to all gray or all pink, look for missing opening or closing markup, like
</p>
or '' near the line where the color changes. - You can click on the "Page information" link for any page and then scroll to the bottom to see "Lint errors". You can ignore any "Background color inline style rule exists without a corresponding text color" or "Duplicate ID" errors. If there are "Missing end tag" errors, click on the "View detailed information on the lint errors" link, then click one of the "edit" links in the listing. You should be taken to an edit screen with some wikitext highlighted; the error is typically within, just before, or just after the highlighted text. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:32, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hard to believe after nearly two decades of being active here, but I just realized that to invoke the background colors you have to click the pen icon in the bar across the top of the box in which you edit text. I think that will help. You see how being constructive can help, as opposed to characterizing a person as careless? Thank you! Keizers (talk) 13:33, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
