Speedy deletion nomination of Usuário:Tuvalkin/BSicon
A tag has been placed on Usuário:Tuvalkin/BSicon, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. BSicons
Hi Tuvalkin,
The icons you requested on my commons page have been placed in the Category:Icons_for_railway_descriptions/parallel_railways/crossing on commons. On top of that I made a lot more and in the process of restructuring the whole parallel railways category. Wiebevl (talk) 21:35, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
BSicon_vSTR-eBHF.svg
Hi Tuvalkin,
In noticed you nominated the above mentioned icon for deletion since it's a duplicate, I reverted that. I'll try to explain what I'm up to in renaming all those parallel railway icons into what hopefully will be a more consistent way:
All Icons with a 'symmetrical' subject like bridges (either highway, normal or waterway), borders, tunnels but excluding icons for crossings with other railway lines and stations I'd like to propose we stick to the following naming convention:
- v prefix, both lines in use: , ,
- ev prefix, left line disused, right line in use: , ,
- xv prefix, left line in use, right line disused: , ,
- exv prefix, both lines disused: , ,
For crossings this doesn't work out since the prefix will be de denominator for the crossing line:
For 'symmetrical' stations is works like crossings, where the prefix stands before the v and nominates the whole station :
For 'non-symmertical' stations I propose that we put e or x after the v prefix so it's clear whether it denominates the right or left track:
These four icons were already named that way, therefore File:BSicon evBHF-STR.svg (evBHF-STR) should be renamed veBHF-STR. I know evBHF-STR stands for the same thing, a closed station on the left one of two used tracks, but in combinations of used and disused tracks it won't work. For instance File:BSicon xvHST-STR.svg (xvHST-STR), which should be vexHST-STR, because the x prefix before the v suggest both track are closed.
I'm open for debate :-). Wiebevl (talk) 11:28, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind reply :-) Wiebevl (talk) 00:28, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

- Hi, I am just trying to sort out a couple of naming issues. The UK waterway project seems to have got the green tunnel prefixes the wrong way round. They should be gt, rather than tg. I have created new icons, replaced all occurrences in templates on English wikipedia, fixed the legend on Welsh wikipedia and Japanese wikipedia (scary), and have just got to fix the Russian one, but somehow they are using templates from one of my user pages, so that is a bit more tricky. However, you have copies of utgSTR, utgAKRZu2, utgAROADu and utgKRZuy on your icon page. Would you mind changing them to ugtSTR, ugtAKRZu2, ugtAROADu and ugtKRZuy, so that I can tidy up Commons, please? Bob1960evens (talk) 22:39, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

BSIcons
You are welcome! I'm working on a project (which can be viewed on my user page) in which the complexity requires new icons that haven't been created yet. I usually end up taking an existing icon and modify the color scheme to match what I'm looking for. Once this project is complete, I may decide to, in my free time, try to do this for lots of icons that need creation. I just need someone to show me the proper way and it looks like you gave me the right direction to go in! »(moved to commons:Talk:BSicon/Renaming#2 misnamed corners)« Thanks for your help! - Not sure what happened with (
vÜWc4
) and (vÜWc2
) but as you can see, a reference to vÜWc2 shows the old icon but if you click on it to go to the file page, it shows the correct updated icon. Not sure how to fix this, any ideas? BT14 (talk) 21:09, 24 January 2012 (UTC)- Hello again! I'm finally nearing completion of the map I was working on (took a while to have certain things programmed and to figure out how to do it), but now that it's winding down, i wanted to know if there were icons that were in high demand so i can start work on them. Let me know! BT14 (talk) 03:00, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
Wrong transcription - WP:IPA for Portuguese
I don't try to teach you Portuguese or anything darling. Please, check carefully WP:IPA for Portuguese, lenition of /b d g/ only occurs after a continuant (i.e. in intervocalic position), not in word initial position. Dedo is pronounced [ˈdeðu], not *[ˈðeðu] ([d] in initial position and after nasal vowels, and [ð] generally in intervocalic position). Jɑυмe (xarrades) 01:49, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- … Hm, isso seria WP:OR, pois é. Olha, leva lá a bicicleta. Tuvalkin (talk) 02:04, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
(editing conflict here)
- Source: In northern and central Portugal, /b/, /d/, and /ɡ/ are lenited to fricatives of the same place of articulation ([β], [ð], and [ɣ], respectively) in all places except after a pause, or a nasal vowel, in which contexts they are stops [b, d, ɡ], not dissimilar from English b, d, g (Mateus & d'Andrade 2000:11).
- Sim, eu sei ler. Mas vai lá ver ao Mateus & Andrade o que é que accontece em início de palavra; procura por "prosódia", que te faz bem. (E não é "d’Andrade", xiça, o "de" não entra na alfabetização, que isto não é o Texas!) Tuvalkin (talk) 02:04, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Given that (so far) there is only one SKRZ-G
icon, it may be somewhat confusing to have the double row of icon roots in the catalog table. Thoughts? Useddenim (talk) 21:41, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
- One of the 1st of many, and this renaming had to be done. I was my fault from day one, using the same icon root ID for both roads and for roads crossing rail, arriving to inconsistencies as discussed here. The reaniming proposal was along for a long time now, and I felt it was about time to go ahead — starting with the names that already had conflicted, with "
filename
" used for the wrong icon and "filename(!)
" used fot the right one.
- What do you propose instead? Wait till there's more of the newly named icons? The problem is that some of the “old” names (those which has the "(!)" thingy) will be showing completely different icons; no redirect can help here. The user will have to know that a renaming is underway.
- Sorry, I have no better suggestion, other than "make sure that it gets done as quickly as possible" to reduce any confusion. Good luck. Useddenim (talk) 11:33, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, I’m suggesting that to myself, too! :-\ Tuvalkin (talk) 13:00, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
Template:Gawler Central railway line
You wouldn't like to have a go at fixing the icon on the row "To Melbourne" (between 0.8km and 2.5km), would you? I had several tries, and what's there is the best I could come up with, but it's still "not quite right".
And if you are in the mood ...
- the pale red link "joining" the red to the blue shouldn't be there. (Between 4.9km and 6.0km)
- (Between 10.6km and 14.3km) The Depot is there now & functional - I doubt the "former Northfield line" has anything to do with it. It doesn't go anywhere other than back to the red track. (Somewhat like the Pacific National Freight Terminal between 6.6 & 7.7km) Also in that section, the Port Wakefield Road bridge is purely a road bridge (for a highway) - like the Grand Junction Road bridge - which, btw, is also dual carriageway.).
- At "To Port Adelaide" (8.7-10.6), the blue arrow should be red.

I suggest renaming these two templates to {{RP-anleitungN}} and {{RP-anleitungG}} to save space and for consistency with the BS-anleitung templates. Useddenim (talk) 20:50, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

-- 20:16, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hello! Better bring that matter to the central discussion point at commons:Talk:BSicon. However, one thing I can tell you right now: These need to be SVG files, not PNGs, and lay within virtual frame at 500px height (normally ×500, sometimes ×250, seldom ×1000 or ×125). Tuvalkin (talk) 23:33, 2 January 2013 (UTC)
- How do you create SVGs? Well, I’m sure you can find a basic primer easily enough. Cannot help you there, though, as I learn it all by myself. Tuvalkin (talk) 01:49, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
All I use is Microsoft Office-- 17:38, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

BSicon move
No problem with this in my sandbox, but could you take a look at [2]? -DePiep (talk) 22:21, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry. I usually don't forget to fix usage after renaming. It is strange that the redirets are not working, though. Tuvalkin (talk) 22:28, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- Please check again. If Redirects are like in the English WP, there is this: the old file name is red. -DePiep (talk) 21:13, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
- It's not an enwp thing, redirects on Commons appear to be showing up as red on all projects that aren't Commons lately. So, if you move a BSicon with usage, please list it on the by hand page for processing by those that understand the things... which are not me! Courcelles 03:04, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I do something better: I do the manual replacing myself, ASAP after renaming, making sure that the missing icon is not shown for more than half an hour, tops. It is not great, but it is the best I can do. Tuvalkin (talk) 05:11, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Help required
Hello, Useddenim suggested I get in contact with you in regards to some route map issues I'm having. I know what I want with this route map, I just don't know how to make it happen. I've left posts on Useddenim's talk page and a detailed request for help on the Template talk page. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. kind regards, Wiki ian 08:52, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- Hello there! Nice diagramming you have there, too! I cannot give you much help apart from this:
- Any icon you need done, ask me, or better (faster) yet at commons:Talk:BSicon/New icons and icon requests.
- If you make your own new icons based on existing ones, the nae name should be locally derivable — however if you’re not sure, run it thro other’s opinion with a post at commons:Talk:BSicon/Renaming; if you’re really unsure add an "
(!)
" in the filename. - There’s a very hand reportoire starting at Wikipedia:Route diagram template/Catalog of pictograms — there you can see what’s missing, and deduce the expected names for those.
- Also, for road×rail and road-only icons (of the grey/white generic pattern you’ve been using) there’s these two pages listing them all and you can check the expected names for the missing by hovering the red dashes.
- Let me know if you need anything else about BSicons. Tuvalkin (talk) 20:41, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Be more respectful of other editors
Tuvalkin, this is absolutely unacceptable. I'm tempted to restore the image merely because you treated that other editor so rudely. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 01:26, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- You’re tempted to restore an image about a separate subject (Elevador da Glória is a funicular, not part of the Lisbon tram system, even if managed by the same company) just because, upon reverting the article to correctness, I might have hurt the spammer’s widdwe feewings by pointing out that his photo is one of the worse among a couple hundred on the same subject? That would infinitesimally degrade the overall quality of the English Wikipedia, without bothering me a bit. Tuvalkin (talk) 02:20, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- The photo doesn't fit, for the reasons you give, but you can still express yourself with civility. Improving and maintaining the quality of the encyclopedia is important, but so is maintaining a pleasant editing environment. Yaris678 (talk) 17:25, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
RFC
Mjroots has opened an RFC at Wikipedia talk:Route diagram template#RFC, challenging the use of the new system and demanding that no further RDTs should be changed. Useddenim (talk) 00:53, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
- Hi, Useddenim, and thanks for the heads up! However I don’t think you want me joining that discussion. Not only I hardly create any RDT content for en:wp, my opinion is also not really along yours: Regardless of YLSS being a formidable colleague whose work and outlook I appreciate a lot, and despite this Mjroots being quite the dispeakable character, I utterly abhorr the syntax of {{Routemap}} and I fervently hope I'll never need to touch it even with a ten foot pole. Tildes? Backslashes? By whom were those abominations chosen? Not by me — and therefore not for me… Sorry about that, and good luck. Tuvalkin (talk) 01:42, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
- Nope; like sometimes a rose is just a rose, this was just a “heads up”. Personally, I think it really is just a tempest in a teapot: the syntax, although possibly cumbersome, isn't that difficult to understand; and one must admit that not having to specify the BS# r keep track of which position an overlay icon is in is a benefit. Spoilers
Hello, Tuvalkin! It has been a very long time since I have edited something on Wikipedia, or sent anyone a message. Please feel free to delete this after reading! Please forgive my inept mode of communication. I saw your note on the Cast and Characters section of the Wikipedia article for Manifest, the American TV series. In general, Wikipedia is my go-to place to get information quickly. With movies and television series I will also go to IMDB. I wish I had gone to IMDB instead of Wikipedia when the other evening I had a question about an actress that played a character on he American TV series Manifest, which I have just started - I am half way through season 1. I looked up a character to learned who the actress was - but was dismayed to see a brief synopsis of a major plot point that was a real spoiler. A quick glance over other characters showed me that many spoilers were included underneath Cast and Characters. I think this is really inappropriate, to include major plot points and spoilers - don't you? At the very least, I think that if editors are determined to include major plot points under Cast and Characters there should be a warning at the top: WARNING: Cast and Characters includes major plot points and spoilers. What do you think, Tuvalkin? Do you get my point? Can you help with this? Thanks! MusaVeneziana(talk) 02:19, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- @MusaVeneziana: I think you’re right: You should post your suggestion in the talk page of the article in question — I am not a frequent editor of the English Wikipedia. Tuvalkin (talk) 03:54, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your suggestion! MusaVeneziana(talk) 03:29, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- I hope you will like Manifest better than I did: Fairly good casting and great acting, as usual, but meandering plot with senseless twists, and a weird agenda/worldview that will put off even the most keen space cadet. I soldiered up to Season 4, which was the last before cancellation. Tuvalkin (talk) 04:04, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your opinion. The concept was not new but an interesting one to me - but the execution was not top notch. I stopped watching it after seeing the spoilers in the Cast and Characters section of the Wikipedia article for the show! MusaVeneziana(talk) 03:31, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
