Bay Area WikiSalon series | ||
---|---|---|
Periodically, on a last Wednesday evening of the month, wiki and open-source enthusiasts meet up to mingle, munch, collaborate or learn about new projects and ideas. At each WikiSalon we plan a brief formal presentation; some will help orient people new to the wiki/open-source world, with others geared to more experienced people. Many presentations will have broad appeal to non-wiki/non-open-source folks. We hope you will join us! Note: We are extremely inclusive – broadly construed – plus we adhere to the friendly place policies of the Wikimedia Foundation.

The ninth in the monthly Bay Area WikiSalon series: You can stand around, grab a couch, a booth, counter, or a stool and do your own thing. We have a whole floor to ourselves (the WMF Chip Deubner Lounge).
We will have two very brief presentations:
- Welcoming and Helping New Editors: A Month at the Teahouse: an overview of the Teahouse and an analysis of over 300 Teahouse conversations during the month of August, 2016, led by Jim Heaphy User:Cullen328
- Lightning talks: any topic you wish to briefly speak about
- General announcements that you wish to make
Newcomers are encouraged to attend. Bring a friend! Experienced editors will be on hand to help anybody requesting help with editing. The doors open promptly at 6:00 pm. We will have beverages and light snacks, provided by a Rapid Grant from the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) and by anonymous donors. You are welcome to bring your own food or additional adult beverages. Free Wi-Fi is available. Be sure to bring your editing device if you plan to edit. If you cannot come for the whole time, please pop in for a minute and say Hi. Come late, leave early if you need to.
Please note: You *should* register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your RSVP name. The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. If you forget to RSVP you can call Ben or Wayne and we will get you in. Worst case, just show up and Stephen will figure out how to get you in the doors. RSVPing helps us figure out how much food to bring in and to make sure we do not exceed the fire marshal limit for the space (100 attendees).
