Kiril Mihajlovski (Macedonian: Кирил Михајловски) (1916–1991) was a Macedonian communist, Yugoslav Partisan, and major general in the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA).[1] He was declared a People's Hero of Yugoslavia in 1953 and was a recipient of the 1941 Partisan Commemorative Medal.
Biography

[edit]Born in 1916 in Vinica, in what was then the Kingdom of Bulgaria, Mihajlovski came from a family of educators.[2]His family moved to Leskovac, Serbia, where he completed his secondary education. During his school years, he became involved with revolutionary youth circles, engaging with Marxist literature and participating in cultural and political activities.[3]He joined the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) in 1938 and became a member of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia (KPJ) in 1941.[4]
During World War II

Mihajlovski joined the Yugoslav Partisan resistance in 1941.[5] He played a key role in organizing the Toplica Partisan Detachment and held various leadership positions, including commander of the Jastrebac Battalion and political commissar of the First South Morava Brigade.[6][7]In late 1943 and 1944, he operated in Macedonia, serving as the head of the Operational Staff for units in the Kozjak, Ruen, Široka Planina, and Karadak regions[8][7]He was appointed political commissar of the Third and later the Fourth Macedonian Brigades, eventually commanding the 50th and 51st Divisions and the Štip Military District.[9] Mihajlovski was also a delegate at the first session of the Anti-Fascist Assembly for the National Liberation of Macedonia (ASNOM).[10]
After World War II
[edit]After World War II, Mihajlovski held high-ranking positions in the JNA.[11]He was involved in significant national events, such as organizing the transfer of Goce Delčev's remains to Skopje. He retired from military service in 1966 with the rank of major general.[1] Mihajlovski passed away on 20 May 1991 in Belgrade.
Death
[edit]Kiril Mihajlovski passed away on May 20, 1991, in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He is remembered as a dedicated soldier and a People's Hero of Yugoslavia, an honor awarded to him in 1953 for his contributions during the National Liberation War.[12]
