I appreciate the citation work, but "Although quilting has long been considered a craft, her interdisciplinary methods -- which create quilts that look like paintings -- have catapulted quilting into the field of fine art." -- is it appropriate to view representational portraiture as fine art when the work of non-representational quilters such as the Gee's Bend collective has also been considered fine art? Their quilts have hung on museum walls around the world as art works, not as craft works. The articles from more mainstream media about her exhibits that are cited probably lack the background to make this assertion. It seems like a disservice to other Black quilters. There has to be a way to write about her work as the striking and transformative approach that it is while not saying she's the first to do fine art.
