National varieties of English
Hello. In a recent edit to the page Tangiwai disaster, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the first author of the article used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Please use New Zealand English. Feel free to revert if you want. Frankism Edit error
Hello SuperMarioOdyssy101 - I believe that my edit was removed in error. My intention was to remove irrelevant information that expanded on Candace Owen's comments and speculated about her intentions, as well as to clarify and neutralize the language in the first sentence. I didn't use language that wasn't neutral or supported by the sources, I removed language that was. Francis394 (talk) 02:48, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- I restored your edit, I’m very sorry I did that SuperMarioOdyssy101 (talk) 02:49, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! Francis394 (talk) 02:50, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- You are welcome SuperMarioOdyssy101 (talk) 02:50, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! Francis394 (talk) 02:50, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- The theories regarding Frankism do not qualify as conspiracy theories by any metric, much less Wikipedia's. It may have been poorly worded, but that additional information does add relevant and fair context to Candance Owens as well as to the reality of how little widespread the theories are. Gurgenheimer (talk) 18:39, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ok SuperMarioOdyssy101 (talk) 20:12, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- While there may be theories regarding Frankism that are legitimate, the source cited is a peer-reviewed article entitled, "Antisemitic conspiracy fantasy in the age of digital media: "Three 'conspiracy theorists' and their YouTube audiences". There is no source that indicates that no theories regarding Frankism are conspiracy theories, therefore the claim that theories regarding Frankism are not conspiracy theories cannot be supported. Furthermore, Wikipedia's policy regarding conspiracy theories states that fringe theories should not be included along with mainstream views, to avoid giving undue weight to unfounded claims: "We do not take a stand on these issues as encyclopedia writers, for or against; we merely omit this information where including it would unduly legitimize it, and otherwise include and describe these ideas in their proper context concerning established scholarship and the beliefs of the wider world." (https://teknopedia.ac.id/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view). Additionally, the context provided here for Candace Owens' comments uses subjective language. What is the source that supports the claim that Candace Ownes is "is very careful to distance Frankism from Judaism and Jews, likely to defend herself from accusations of antisemitism." How does the editor know that she is careful, or what her motivations are? Subjective and unsupported language is used in the first sentence as well, with the claim that "theories have survived." The word "survived" is an unclear term with varied implications. The language should support the information presented in the cited material, which states that a conspiracy theory regarding this topic was posted to YouTube in 2016.
- Because of Wikipedia's policy not to give undue weight to fringe theories, the entire section should be removed. Francis394 (talk) 00:57, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ok SuperMarioOdyssy101 (talk) 20:12, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
I hope you don't mind me mentioning...
We've had a lot of vandals today/tonight and I've noticed a lot of welcome messages from you. It's great that you're making the effort.
Can I ask that you do a quick check on what they're editing as I've noticed a few welcome messages posted after they have vandalised articles. Maybe a quick look at their edits first before welcoming them.
Thank you! Knitsey (talk) 04:14, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ok SuperMarioOdyssy101 (talk) 14:29, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- I got another question, I’ve started to check the contributions, do I warn someone for vandalism or use the {{welcomevandal}} template? SuperMarioOdyssy101 (talk) 14:44, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
