where we aim to: (1) improve Wikimedia content using openly licensed materials; (2) improve Wikipedia articles related to openness (e.g. open access publishing, open educational resources, etc.) |
|
WikiProject Open is a place to collaborate on improving Wikipedia articles about openness.[1] This includes these topics:
- Open educational resources
- Open access publishing
- Open education
Some relevant concepts – notably open access – have thriving WikiProjects already; you will find links to them throughout the WikiProject Open pages. But we have chosen to centralize our "talk pages" so that we can have more inclusive and productive discussions.
Since October 2013, we have been working actively on how to build out these pages. Please see the "Talk" and "WikiProject Planning" tabs above for the most up-to-date info - and add your ideas! You're encouraged to join our email list, or any planning sessions advertised on the planning tab.

Assessment
If you see an article which is within the scope of this WikiProject, please tag its talkpage with our Wikiproject Open talk template. To tag an article as a Wikiproject Open article, please add
{{WikiProject Open | class= | importance= }}
to the top of the talk page, which yields this discussion template:

- Quality and importance
Articles which are flagged with this template can be assessed by quality and importance. "Quality" refers to article quality and "importance" refers to how important an article is for developing this project. When a user tags an article with the above template and rates the article, then it will be included in this table after the bot runs (every three days).

Organization
The three most common organizational systems on Wikipedia are navigational boxes, lists, and categories. Here are some organizational tools used by this project:
The {{Open navbox}} navbox:
The {{user:Bluerasberry/template:openness}} navbox, made by user:Waldir and then nominated for deletion for being an orphan:
Notes
- ^ A WikiProject is an informal group of Wikipedians working together to improve a certain topic's coverage. The term also refers to the collection of wiki pages, in this case reflected by the tabs above, that support such collaborative efforts.
